cant color cylinder

cant color cylinder

as the title says, i cant color a cylinder i have drawn myself. with coloring i mean the following:

select all vertices of the cylinder, goto surface>paint...>color. when i press Fill nothing happens. at other parts which already exist it just works as usual.

do i have to convert my cylinder to something?



EDIT: i just found solution, you need to turn on "diffuse" at settings menu of the shape :)
